What began a journey a few years back into the counterculture of motorcycling lead me down a rabbit hole, however helping me discover homegrown brands that compete with the international market in terms of automotive design, engineering and product deliverability.

My love affair with motorcycles began as a kid, and I have since lost account of my various memories growing up around mopeds and motorcycles.

As a millennial, the internet would only arrive at university, so most of my childhood hobbies were kept simple; books, bicycles and rummaging through grand dad’s garage. Which would be later rebuilt to aid my father’s restoration of his beloved Premier Padmini.

A home garage, but a garage nevertheless, which I still continue to make use of it when time permits.

Like most garages, where ideas are born, this blog is a brief glimpse into Indian startups that are reshaping the motorcycle industry. A journey into some of India’s most successful custom motorcycle startups and brands, who create world-class products in India.

With a mission based on Loretta Lynn’s philosophy of “Being Different, Great or First’, these gentlemen motorheads and skilled engineers went to work on an ‘idea’ which would later translate into one of India’s finest custom motorcycle shops and a revival in the motorcycle counter-culture in India.

Motorcyclists have always altered the appearance of their machines, tinkering since the very first days of motorcycling.

And so is with TNT motorcycles, for whom the idea of taking motorcycles that were manufactured in series and modifying them totally or partially to personal taste, turning them into products we had always dreamed of having, piece by piece, is something engineeringly artistic.

It might include a deliberately unrealistic approach to practicality. It might be provocative and artistic. As with the gentlemen at TNT motorcycles, every project is envisioned with a particular ideology that is articulately carried out with precision engineering and design philosophy.

The Indian startup ecosystem is vibrant and is the third-largest startup ecosystem, with verticals like Fintech, EV, SaaS, and Artificial intelligence boosting the Indian GDP.

However, home-grown startups and brands such as TNT motorcycles and other similar noteworthy small businesses in India, are quietly creating a mark for themselves in the Indian automotive world.
